Hong Kong City Travel Guide 2026

How to Use my Travel Guides

Given how much there is to do in Hong Kong I have split it into several pages as follows:

  • Main Page – A written overview of Hong Kong
  • City Guide – My specific recommendations for the best things to do in the city (NOW READING)
  • Territory Guide – A guide to things to do in the Hong Kong Territory which are outside of the main urban area
You can find links to these other pages, as well as my travel guides for other destinations below…

Photos note: All of the photos you see on my website are taken by me or of me!

Overview

Hong Kong has a population of approximately 7.5 million people. The city itself is split into two parts, with Victoria Harbour separating the two areas. Bridges and water taxis take people and vehicles from one side to the other. Part of the city is located on the north side of Hong Kong Island, with more of the city opposite on the south side of the mainland. The city is hemmed in by mountains, meaning that it is incredibly densely populated with many high-rise buildings and skyscrapers, making for a striking and iconic appearance. One of the best views of the city is from Victoria Peak (more on that shortly). For the best things to do in the city itself, read on!

Best things to do in Hong Kong, City Guide 2026

I provide star ratings for each of my recommendations so that you can quickly narrow down what appeals to you. Explanations for what these mean can be found here.

I use Google Maps to plan all my trips and it’s a game-changer! I’ve added links to Google Maps for each of the locations below so you can easily add them to your own map. Be sure to copy this web link into the description of each location you save so that you can easily refer back to this guide later. Check out this blog for more tips on how to use Google Maps to enhance your travels!
